Tā pat kā vairums pasaules ziemas saulgriežu tradīcijas saistās ar gaismas atgriešanos, tā arī daudzas šīs tradīcijas stiepjas pāri vairākām dienām - šis ir laika posms kam izejam cauri nevis viens vienīgs mirklis. Man patīk doma aiz divpadsmit Ziemassvēktu dienām kristietībā - sākās ar brīnuma ierašanos un tad sagaidam kamēr ierodas 'gudrie' ar savām dāvanām. I like the idea behind the twelve days of Christmas in Christianity - it begins with the arrival of a miracle and then we wait until the 'wise ones' arrive with their gifts. And isn't that just how it goes? The pearls of wisdom behind every miracle are uncovered gradually as the meaning becomes more clear. We just need the patience and trust in the journey....
Latvians have a unique tradition of 'pouring one's Laima (happiness/fate/good fortune)' some time between Christmas and New Year's eve, to help chrystalize your intentions and direct your path for the coming year. Lead is melted in a pan over a fire and then quickly dumped into a bucket of cold water. The form that your lead takes on indicates something about your journey in the coming year. We physically melt and pour our silver, and remember that in Latvian folksongs, silver indicates divine wisdom. Let our patience and trust flow, as we wait for and get to know our coming journey! Let each journey bring wealth and wisdom for the soul!
